Big Moves and Christmas Blooms

It has been an exciting and busy year for independent flower shop, John Henry Flowers. From re-location to Christmas wreaths, we spoke to co-owner Myky about the past year and what is in store for 2024.

How has this year been for John Henry Flowers?

Busy! January can sometimes be a quiet month being just after Christmas but for us we gained new customers who had received John Henry Flowers as gifts and liked what we do. The Senedd were on the phone again requiring more flowers for an event after we had supplied arrangements for a Holodomor Memorial last year. Valentine’s and Mother’s Day were even busier than last year, but the biggest event for us this year has been moving to a new location?

Tell us a little bit about your exciting new location.

It’s bigger, brighter and in a much better position. We loved our little shop, but it was time to expand. We now have much more space and light with much better visibility on Wellfield Road. Being opposite Tesco Express makes us very easy to find! We’ve been able to extend the range of flowers, plants and accessories that we stock, making our shop even more attractive.

Why do your customers come to you?

We offer excellent quality and reasonable prices. The service is also very personal and each order is bespoke and tailored to the needs of the customer. We also specialise in floral sculpture which is a big draw to our business. Recently we’ve been asked to create a record player, a pug, a horse and jockey jumping a fence, and even had an order from Canada for the Bristol City football team logo.

Customers also know that we always have grab-and-go bouquets, which are also handmade in store, for when they’re in a hurry.

With Christmas coming up, what are your most popular products?

At the moment, our pumpkin-related products are doing well, but closer to Christmas it will be our door wreaths. We offer a range of designs to choose from in two sizes. Table and mantelpiece arrangements are also very popular. Again, we offer a range of designs, or if you have something special in mind, you just need to ask.

Any exciting plans for the new year?

There are already quite a few weddings in our diary, so we’re very excited to be helping to create beautiful memories for those couples. We often get sent photos from the day, and it brings us joy to see how happy everyone is. We will be continuing to support local community events, so keep an eye out for those.
