From Stevie Wonder to the people of Wales – The Welsh couple changing the landscape for one of Britain’s most loved takeaway dishes.

The multi-award winning Posh Fish & Chip Company in Llandaff has just added another trophy to its shelf, by securing a top-three finish for ‘Best Mobile Unit’ at the 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards. Placing second overall, they proudly stand as the highest-ranked in Wales.

Since 2013, they’ve been famous for their gourmet twist on the classic chippy, serving fresh chips and ‘secret recipe’ sauces with their signature “posh” flair.

Owners Hamid Kowsor and Laura Davenport have always run their business under the premise of not just selling fish and chips, but elevating the entire experience completely. After noticing a slight shift with some customers swapping their Friday night takeaway for a more glamorous affair, they decided to pivot their fish and chip company, bringing one of Britain’s favourite takeaways to unlikely settings.

In addition to their loyal Llandaff residents, the duo adapted their business and brought their mobile unit to all corners of the country, including festivals, concerts and sporting events. The chip shop could often be found at Cardiff’s huge outdoor gigs in Blackweir fields, at the Green Man Festival and at sporting grounds like Glamorgan Cricket, transforming a British staple into a premium event-based offering all year round.

The National Fish and Chip Awards – often referred to as the industry’s “Oscars” – returned to London’s Park Plaza this Wednesday, February 25. The day-long awards is the industry’s biggest event, celebrating the best fryers, restaurants, and newcomers across the UK. After applying last September, Hamid and Laura of Posh Fish & Chips advanced through a rigorous process, including a live cook-off to judges and an expert interview to prove why their food deserves the top prize.

Laura Davenport, co-owner of Posh Fish & Chips said: “It’s amazing to be crowned winners at this year’s awards, demonstrating our commitment to bring new and exciting ways to serve one of British’s favourite dishes. Our journey the past few years has been incredible and a real ‘pinch me’ moment.

“Our mission has always been to meet the rising demand for premium quality ‘on-the-go’ dining, proving the convenience should never come at the expense of excellence. Winning the title for first place is proof that we’ve done that, and we couldn’t be happier! Whether we’re serving musical legend Stevie Wonder or the people of Wales, the quality of every chip stays the same, and that’s something we’re truly so proud of.”

The Posh Fish & Chips Company have another big summer ahead of them, with a host of local festivals, concerts and sporting events coming up. They have also recently opened the Barry Island Fish and Chip Company on Barry Island.
