With 32 years’ experience in optometry, Clare Corcoran is one of the familiar faces helping Cardiff residents look after their sight.

Clare began her Specsavers career in Brecon more than two decades ago and now runs three stores across Cardiff, including Specsavers Queen Street where she works alongside fellow directors Amy Naish, James Deavall and Matthew Thomas.

Earlier this year, the Queen Street store underwent an impressive £600,000 transformation. The business, which employs more than 50 people, now has 11 upgraded optical test rooms, a fourth OCT machine, a new contact lens facility and a dedicated ear wax removal room.

This has allowed the team to offer specialist services, including Independent Prescribing (IP), medical retina care and dry eye services, which means they can help people with a range of eye health needs in their own community.

For Clare, the investment reflects how much eye care has changed during her career. She says: “I’ve worked in optometry for more than 30 years, 22 as a store director, and what I’ve always enjoyed most is getting to know the people who come through our doors.

“Every day is different. Carrying out eye tests means meeting people of all ages and backgrounds, understanding what matters to them and making sure they get the right advice.

“Eye care has changed hugely during my career too. There’s so much more we offer now beyond simply checking whether someone needs glasses, and it’s great to have those facilities and expertise here at Queen Street.”

Clare leads a team with an inspiring history of its own. Lisa Robinson, a member of the management team, has spent 36 years at Specsavers Queen Street, seeing the store move twice as well as five more stores opening across Cardiff and Penarth.
