Penarth Summer Festival 2022!

Don’t forget, Penarth’s popular Summer Festival and Downhill Derby is taking place on Saturday the 16th of July.

The event, hosted along the famous seaside Esplanade, will feature live music, fairground rides, refreshments, community stalls and the white-knuckle thrills of the Downhill Derby. Organised by Penarth Town Council, the summer festival is taking place between 12pm and 8pm and is free for all to attend.

The Summer Festival has been a feature in Penarth since the 1960’s and has taken various forms over the years. With the addition of the Downhill Derby in 2010, the festival attracts thousands from all over Wales to witness and compete in the notorious gravity races.

Opening this year’s event, we have Wonderbrass, the long-running and internationally celebrated community music project with a repertoire which spans music New Orleans street tunes to the pop classics of Britney.

There’s more music throughout the day from Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society, Wales’ longest running samba band, Samba Galez, and classic rock covers from The Firm.

Finally, the day closes with local legends, Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band- a 12 piece classic soul band who have played all over the globe since 1990/

Penarth Town Mayor, Cllr Laura Rochefort said: “We are so excited to have the Summer Festival and Downhill Derby back for 2022. It really is part of this town’s identity, and we are proud to be organising it. After the last two years I am so excited to be able to get out and celebrate our wonderful community.”
